This post will finish up our time in DC and then our travel to the borough of Kutztown, PA. Our travel there was just less than 200 miles with some re-routing on truck routes. It is located 17 miles northeast of Reading PA. Our RV park was Pine Hill RV resort. A nice park. Not a lot of amenities but very peaceful.
Kutztown is a very nice small town originally settled by Germans and influenced by the Pennsylvania Dutch with a population of about 5,000 people. Although there were not many enticing businesses in the downtown section there were many historic buildings that evidenced a bustling past.
They were having their annual festival, a very big deal to the locals, but we did not attend. The festival is mainly displays of crafts and quilts many done by the Amish. We did attend a local winery about 1/2 mile from our campground. Pinnacle Ridge Winery is located in a huge old barn with the basement housing the working part of the winery. After a great wine tasting it was about 4 pm and they were to have music start at 5 pm. So we left to go back to the camp with a plan to return at 5. When we came back, cars were parking all up and down the road and the barn was overflowing. It looks as if this is the Friday night entertainment for the town!
As a side note, the usual grocery stores in Pennsylvania do not sell beer or wine. These items must be purchased at the wine or the beer store.
Enjoy the photos!
Have a great day!
