It saddens me to write this post. We have lost a dear lady, Pat’s mom and my mother-in-law died yesterday at the age of 96. She has been in some declining health since this spring when she had to leave her home and go into a care facility. Within 10 months, I have lost both my own mother and now a lady who I always considered to be a second mom. In this post, I will share a few memories and photos. A small celebration of her life, if you will.

We left our Florida winter location on March 30th for our slow travel back to our home in the Virginia mountains. The drive is about 750 miles and while driving in the truck/trailer combination, I prefer to break the trip up into four segments, averaging 188 miles per moving day. That way we can be relocated and set up by 2pm and can go exploring.
Indiana Quick Trip
We recently made our twice a year time back to the Hoosier mother land. Got to see the moms and some other family before we pack up and head to Florida to avoid the snow shovel syndrome. I’ve mentioned before about the 500 mile drive on this page. It makes for a long day, but great to see family and friends. On to the Indiana quick trip…
Winter Route Plan
We have determined our route south this winter to Florida. No big loop to Louisiana like we planned last year. Just almost a straight south shot with a few stops along the way. Speaking of winter, the first day of fall has just passed by and the leaves have already started to drop. Our leave by date of December 1st is usually the end of the leaf raking. Today’s photos are unrelated to today’s post, but from last month’s festivals in the area.
Our Hoosier Moms Visit
We try to visit the moms and other family at least twice a year in the Hoosier State. It is exactly 500 miles from our place in Virginia. Not exactly a quick drive. After stops for lunch, coffee, and restrooms, and more coffee, we take about 11 hours to get to Greencastle. This trip was something of a special visit…
Fall/Winter Route Plan
Our plans are now in place for this coming fall and winter for our RV travel escape the snow plan. The route includes a northwest start to Indiana to see the Moms, then a southwest drive through some old favorite destinations, then finally down to the Rio Grande Valley (RGV) for the winter. Reservations have been booked and preparations have begin for our fall/winter RV travel. But it is only the middle of the summer!
Asheboro, NC – first stop winter 2020
We debated whether to travel at our normal slow pace (150 miles and stay a few days), or just bite the bullet and drive like a demon bat and get to the warmer climate. The slower pace won out since we can still get out for hiking and walking about in the 40-50 degree weather. Even with the virus running loose there must still plenty of things to do. So, our first stop was in the small friendly town of Asheboro, NC.
Flight To Indy To See The Moms
Gotta see the moms! We wanted to work in a weeklong trip back to Indiana to see our moms before taking off on our spring/summer/fall plans. Finally decided to extend our stay here at Llano Grande Resort by a couple of weeks. This is a very safe and secure park to leave our rolling home for a week. So, we booked our flights and a rental car and were off to the Great Up North on Tuesday March 19th!
Merry Christmas! The Memories of Christmas Past
This is the time of year to celebrate the season by spending time with our families and friends. Many Christmas parties, dinners, gift exchanges, and gatherings. Although, this year will be another adjustment phase for us. We will surely miss our family and friends this year, since we are in deep south Texas for the winter season. So, this year my thoughts go to the years past…

The featured image above was the sunset in Hendricks County Indiana that greeted us!
We have now been at our old hometown in Virginia for three weeks. The long list of action items is coming along quite well. It has been a busy and somewhat stressful three weeks as we are rushing to meet some deadlines. One of the things that we wanted to do while in Virginia is a quick 500 mile trip to see our moms. So, we rented a car, packed a lunch and took off on Tuesday last week! Continue reading “Quick Trip To See The Moms”
