Pat and I are now well into our almost two-month European trip with a visit from our son Ross. My plan is to get my blog up to date in the next 2-3 posts. We are having a great time but at the same time on a relaxed pace since we have plenty of time to explore.

We leave in two days for a two-month adventure! This, trip has been almost a year in the planning stages and has many different facets. To begin with some background, we took a guided tour of the highlights of Italy last year. Saw many major tourist locations but it was very fast paced – no rest time nor much on our own time. Today’s post will focus on our next stop on the 11-day tour: Pisa (leaning tower and Square of Miracles) and then Florence; the Birthplace of the Renaissance. Florence is the capital of the Tuscany region and home to many masterpieces of Renaissance art and architecture. One of its most iconic sights is the Duomo, a cathedral with a terracotta-tiled dome engineered by Brunelleschi and a bell tower by Giotto. The Galleria dell’Accademia displays Michelangelo’s “David” sculpture. The Uffizi Gallery exhibits Botticelli’s “The Birth of Venus” and da Vinci’s “Annunciation.”
