Schoodic Peninsula Day Trip

For some time, we have been planning this short drive over to the next peninsula all the way around Frenchman Bay.  The Schoodic Peninsula finally made our schedule and it was super!  The drive was easy enough taking a few GPS suggested back roads, then US-1, then onto Maine 186 as it makes the loop through Schoodic.

It was an hour drive at about 35 miles, but as the crow flies I would bet it was 10 miles.

I’m not sure how the scenic wow factor can keep it up at this pace.  Maybe not everyone would enjoy it as much as we do.  The small villages with fishing boat filled harbors and surrounded by rock covered mountains.  It just begs a painting to be painted.  Or maybe a few photos.

On the drive over to Schoodic, there were many pull outs to stop and read their displays.  Pat and Big Red.

We took a picnic lunch and ate it in the Acadia NP at the very end of the peninsula.  On the way, we stopped at Winter Harbor and walked around, stopping in the little shops.  A very nice small village.

I thought this was amazing! The dark rock is from volcanic flow that froze in place.

  1. I agree with your comment. It looks like one nice view/village after the other. How many of them are not over ran with tourists and shops turned into coffee shops and gift stores? Those would be the villages that I would want to visit.

  2. Beautiful photos , Randy! We fellow RV’s are enjoying your Maine trip while we explore the Beautiful Lake Michigan peninsula and its many lighthouses! Wish y’all were with us!

    1. Thanks Calvin! We have also loved following you guys on Facebook as you work through the great lakes! Looking forward to crossing paths again…maybe Colorado next year or before.
