Savannah GA; More Tours & Dinner at the Olde Pink House

We continue to love the charm of this cool old southern town.  And we are very fortunate to being able to share some of the time with our family in from Texas.  Mike and Lorna were here for five days and we packed a ton of things into that short time.  Enough sight seeing for two blog posts!  Plus we tried many restaurants and a few bars for liquid refreshments as well.  In this post we’ll review the rest of their visit and then saying our goodbyes.

We toured through several of the historic homes including the Andrew Low  house pictured below.  Most of the furnishings were not original, but from the time period.  It was built in 1848 in the Italianate style that includes intricate cast iron railings and balconies.

The Low House is also well known as the home of Juliette Low, the founder of the Girl Scouts of the USA.  To read more about her connection, click here.

This was one of my favorite homes. We tried to look it up on Zillow to check the last price sold for this 8,000 sq foot villa. It was not listed. Darn…
The entrance to Forsyth park. The largest of the squares.

St. Patrick’s day was nearing
Outside the Nautical Museum, they had this colorful display of wind socks. At least that’s what I think they are.  Lorna and Mike playing hide and seek.
One of the many replica ship models in the museum.
Mike at the helm. Full ahead, should not be any icebergs…
Bonaventure cemetery.. Established in 1846 on 70 acres from the Bonaventure Plantation.
Bonaventure Cemetery is supposed to be one of the most beautiful in the world.
It was interesting to just walk around and read the tombstones. Many CSA soldiers buried here.

Pat and Lorna near the river at edge of cemetery.
More green fountains!
Back on the walking tour of Savannah. Nice house.

The last night for our visitors, we had dinner at the finest place in town, the Olde Pink House.  It was beautiful inside, the food and service were very good although a bit pricey.  They have two floors full of diners and a bar in the basement with music.

Fried green tomato salad
One huge flounder. I could barely finish it all.  With collard greens and grits for the side.  Love the southern cooking!
Shared dessert was an evil praline ice cream treat.

With our family having left, we stopped for lunch at the Crystal Beer Parlor.  Having an Irish Coffee of course to help celebrate the season.

Then our short family visit was over as Lorna and Mike were headed back to the Dallas area.  Pat and I have a few more things to see and do while we are here.  The list is getting shorter as is our time to stay in Savannah.  And we are getting to that point of being ready to explore a new area.

One of our traveling objectives is to find a future area to eventually settle down when we are finished with the full-time RV life.  This could certainly be a great candidate.

Take care and God Bless.
