Philipsburg St. Maarten – Cruise Part 3

We docked at Philipsburg, St. Maarten, the Dutch side of the island the next day after leaving San Juan. And I booked a trolley train tour to get some commentary as we cruised around the island. So, grab a beverage, sit back and enjoy the tour in this part 3 of our cruise.

About St. Maarten

St. Maarten is a constituent country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in the Caribbean. With a population of 41,486 on an area of 13 sq mi, it encompasses the southern 40% of the divided island of Saint Martin, while the northern 60% of the island constitutes the French version called St. Martin.

Our tour was only in the town of Philipsburg, with a population of 2,000 people and still recovering from Hurricane Irma. Quite a bit of damage on all of the back streets. The main street was just shop after shop trying to pry a few bucks from the cruise boat tourists.

The one area that looked very nice was the beach and water, although neither of us are big beach lovers. I used to enjoy some snorkeling, but have not done that for years.

Photos

The pictures below are as the ship was approaching the dock and from the dock. It was a hot, humid, and windy day. We sought out shady spots or A/C.

And then we were off on the trolley. It was fine to catch some breeze, but was light on much history or description of the island. We could have just walked the mile to the beach, but it was hotter than heck out there.

Wrap Up

That about wraps up our cruise. After Philipsburg, we had two days at sea and took in some shows, finished my book, and did too much eating! Thanks for following along and God Bless.
