Lancaster & Lititz PA; Amish Area & Torrential Rain

A classic backyard garden.

We recently relocated from a very nice great week long stay in Washington DC to the Amish area of Lancaster, Pennsylvania.  It is also known as the Pennsylvania Dutch Country.  Lancaster is located in the south central part of the state.  This was a mostly easy drive of only 110 miles, but we had some traffic to deal with in DC, Baltimore, and York PA.  And parts of I-83 were terribly rough.

But, it was a safe drive and we arrived early in the day at around 2pm.  Our RV friends, Calvin and Sue arrived the day before we did and were there to welcome us.

Williamsburg, VA; A Very Colonial Experience

Living in Virginia, we have been to Williamsburg a couple of times before and always enjoy returning.  So, we added this delightful stop to our 2018 itinerary for a one week stay.  In addition to strolling through all of the old Colonial Williamsburg, we also were able to meet up with some new friends that we met in Florida, Sue and Calvin. We had a great time exploring this town with them! Continue reading “Williamsburg, VA; A Very Colonial Experience”

Southwest Virginia; Family, Friends, Many Appointments, and a Brake Failure! Yikes!

We had reserved a great campsite at Claytor Lake State Park that is near to our old home town of Christiansburg, Virginia.  We booked this site for the maximum time of two weeks to allow us time to complete all of our annual health checkups plus some vehicle maintenance.

This leg of our travels was about 400 miles over two days of driving.  This is a bit longer than we really like to drive, but needed to get to our Virginia location for some appointments.

We also had an unexpected brake failure with the 5th wheel coach while traveling in the steep mountains from the Cincinnati area to a one night stopover in Huntington, West Virginia!  Yikes!!! Continue reading “Southwest Virginia; Family, Friends, Many Appointments, and a Brake Failure! Yikes!”

Cincinnati Oh; the Creation Museum & the Ark

This was a very good relocation from Indianapolis to just the southwest side of Cincinnati, Ohio at just over 100 miles.  Very nice!  Our campground was the Indian Springs Campground in North Bend Ohio.  It was a little tight between sites and getting into, but not bad for a short stay.  This was a three night stay on the route back to Virginia for our annual doctor visits and to see family and friends. Bardstown KY; Distillery Tours & We Are in a Movie!

This area of Kentucky is most well known for the many distilleries that produce the product known as Kentucky Bourbon.  In the last few years, bourbon has come back into favor as a popular spirit.  It has become so popular that new companies are entering the market.  In fact, this area has what is known as the Bourbon Trail.  You can obtain a small passbook and have each page stamped as you tour each one.  A very popular pastime.
