Rio Grande Valley Texas – Quilt Show & Some Thoughts

As I write this, I’m watching the morning news. The cold weather Up North and the federal budget are a couple of the main stories. The temperatures in Chicago got to minus 22 degrees, but not quite a record cold. Wow! John Steinbeck was quoted as saying “What good is the warmth of summer, without the cold of winter to give it sweetness.” Now that I am wearing shorts and flip flops and sitting on the warm southern US border, I can actually see the wisdom in that!

Port Aransas Texas – Beach Week

Sometimes it is just a beach week. Sometimes it is more. Just a few miles south of the city of Corpus Christi lies a long narrow barrier island that protects the mainland from storms and includes some beautiful, wide beaches. We selected a great park on Mustang Island that was just off the beach. A couple of minutes walk over the sand dunes via the boardwalk and we were at the Gulf of Mexico.

2018 Year In Review

What another great year it was! I feel so blessed and fortunate to be able to live this lifestyle of adventure and travel. Pat and I are continuing to enjoy the RV travel and seeing all that this great country has to offer. It has now been a year and 8 months on the road! Sure, there are some down sides such as missing the family during holiday. But, man oh man, what we have enjoyed this year! This post is to provide a recap of 2018.

San Antonio Texas

san antonio riverwalk

San Antonio is really an amazing city.  The highlight is the 15 mile long scenic riverwalk that winds through approximately 5 miles of the downtown area.  It also has a rich colonial heritage that includes the Alamo and other missions.  Our weeklong stay in this beautiful city has me thinking that this could very well be a great option for the location of our future retirement home.

A Dallas Texas Thanksgiving

Ft Worth Stock Yards

We just finished a wonderful Thanksgiving week with family in the Dallas Texas area.  We finally make it to Texas after a long driving year from Florida all the way up to Maine and then back to the southwest.  Texas will be our winter home for the next four months.  Four locations for about a week each and then down near the Mexico border for three months at one place.  That will be our longest stay in one place since going full-time RVing! Natchitoches – Louisiana’s Oldest Town

Our Journey continues, this time in a northern direction, as we leave the very friendly Betty’s RV park in the far south of Louisiana.  Why go north at this time of year as the temps are plummeting?  Well, that’s a good question, but the answer is to have Thanksgiving with family in the Dallas Texas area.  Our three day stopover on the way to Dallas was near the very inviting small town of Natchitoches Louisiana.  What a gem!
