Merritt Island FL Paradise

It is now Monday morning and this will be our last morning here at the Jetty Park campground located at Port Canaveral.  The home of the cruise ships and NASA.  Our focus on this segment of our travel was to get Mom ready for the next phase of her life, not for beach time or sightseeing adventures.

It has been sad at times to work toward moving her away from the retirement paradise home that my parents enjoyed for the last 25 years.  My Dad passed away almost two years ago and Mom feels that it is time to remove the responsibility of home ownership and the chores of daily meal prep.  Time for a new phase.

It has been a lot of work at this stage with much more to go, but so far we have addressed years of accumulation, placed the home on the market by owner, and have had much interest so far.  It will sell quickly.

The Zillow for sale by owner ad had a ton of hits and soon became the top listing for Brevard County.  It helps to have an updated home on the waterfront with a pool.  And that there are not many other waterfront homes listed.

The Zillow listing by owner quickly become the number viewed home in the area.

Today, we move the RV from the Jetty Park Campground to another park in Cocoa for a month long stay.  The half hour commute sounds good to me, but still requires the same lengthy checklist for pack up and then set up again.

Our campsite #344.  Too short for the Big Rig and the front legs are off the concrete, but still well off the road.

The Jetty Park fishing pier just reopened after repairs from hurricane damage.
Nice fish cleaning stations along the fishing pier
Very nice wooden walkways along and to the beach

After church yesterday, we photographed and measured all the furniture that will need to be sold.  Ads will go into Craigslist over the next few days.  The goal being to have all items gone by mid-January.  Lots to do…

We also went through years of documents and took a trunk load to the shredder company.  Later in the day, we stopped by the campground to show Mom the RV then a stop at Grills for a drink and app while watching the cruise ships leave the channel.

Cruise ship leaving dock near Grills.  This ship used to be the world’s largest, but it may have been surpassed by now.  They are always coming out with larger ships.  Where will it end?

This first week on the Space Coast has been a busy one, but we did manage to have some good time together with Mom going to check out a local assisted care facility, having dinner at Molly’s, lunch at the Moose Lodge and dinner at the Elks Lodge.  On the other nights we enjoyed Pat’s great cooking as she made some large meals to have plenty of leftovers.

Here we are attending the steak night at the local Elk’s lodge.

The weather has taken a cold spell with a major front coming through on Friday and Saturday.  Temps are now down to the 40’s at night and a high today of 60 degrees and sunny.  It is like arctic conditions for the locals but feels pretty darn good.

Take care and God Bless.

  1. Sounds like you have your hands full. By the end of January you will be ready to “Retire” again. Make sure to take time to enjoy things.

    1. We do try to work some fun into the work. 🙂 We have a lot of furnishings to try to sell quickly, so I guess Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace are still the best?
