We are located just a few feet from both the ocean/beach and the port canal with its heavy boat traffic. What a cool destination for a week’s stay! We have already seen a cruise ship leaving, several fishing boats and a couple of Navy ships on their way past our campground.
Our main reason for being in this area is to help Mom downsize her possessions, sell her home, and then help with the move and transition into a retirement community. A huge job.
We drove from Ocala FL to Port Canaveral on Monday morning and it took about four hours with one stop along the way. We actually took the slower, more scenic route on Florida Hwy 40 through the Ocala National Forest. This was mostly a two lane road, but very straight and in good condition. It was surprising the small hills that we encountered in this part of the state.
It was all smooth sailing on this leg of our trip. Getting the monster sized RV into the small campsite was somewhat of a challenge, but after a few “adjustment” moves we had her into position.
The Jetty Park campground is very nice with the best attribute being location. Our spot has full hook ups and is mostly level, but since the concrete pad is only 30 feet long, about 10 feet of the camper is situated on the hard packed sand. I’ll post some photos of the campground in my next update.
The work at Mom’s house has mostly consumed both Tuesday and Wednesday as we cleared out the garage and shed, taking about 30 loads of old stuff to the road for trash pickup. The Florida salt air is so corrosive that any left in a shed/garage environment will be toast in just a few years.
Pat and Mom went through most of the inside to sort through items for Goodwill or garage sale and prepare the home to be listed. By the end of Wednesday we had this done along with photos taken of each room and the outside. I also called a guy to come over and pressure wash the driveway and he was there by afternoon.
With most of the heavy work done, we now just need to meet with a real estate attorney, list the house on Zillow by owner, and then begin to list all of the larger possessions on Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace.
The home is a 3BR, 2BA, with a pool and it is on the canal waterfront with a boat house. The neighbors believe it should sell quickly. I hope so. This Merritt Island area exploded with new homes in the mid 1960’s as the nearby space center enjoyed the “space race” growth years.
Take care and God Bless.

It is snowing in the NRV as I read this post and saw the beautiful pictures of the water. Enjoy the beautiful weather and I hope your Mom’s house sells quickly and that she will enjoy her new retirement home.
The cold front even blasted us here in Florida with high of only 63 today! LOL
