Happy Thanksgiving from Destin Fl!

The Holiday period is coming very rapidly this year.  Where has this year gone?  All over this area of Destin we see the Christmas decorations out and it is looking very festive.  I truly have always enjoyed Christmas season.  The family time, the classic Christmas music, the decorations, and the nice time away from work.  It was always very special.

This year we will miss seeing our family at Thanksgiving since we are staying put here in Florida.  I will also miss the fantastic feasts that Pat has always made in the past.  No real need to do that with just the two of us.

I remember the early married years of packing up the kiddos and we would be off to our parents for Thanksgiving time together.  First to one set of parents, then the other.  Many good memories of eating way too much and then watching some football.

Then it was our grown children would come back home for Thanksgiving and Christmas to our home.  Always a special time to reconnect and enjoy the occasion.  We had a large house in Virginia, so Bryan and Jennifer, her mom, and Ross and Audrey would have plenty of room.

This year is a transition year for us.  No family to visit for Thanksgiving, but we will get together with our kids and my mom at Christmas in the warm climate of Florida.

No need to feel bad as we were able to make reservations at Ruth’s Chris for our Thanksgiving meal.  Yeah, we will just have to suffer through it.  They are serving a special Turkey dinner with all the trimmings, so off we go tomorrow, over the bay and through the beaches we go.

November is the slow time for tourists in Destin.  The town is almost deserted.  Until this week.  Many people have been coming into town each day this holiday week.  On our beachfront 3 mile walk today, the beach area was the most crowded that we have seen it.  I assume they will all be gone by this Sunday and we will have our sleepy little town back.

We do feel that we have many blessings to be thankful for this year.  Our faith, our family, good health, and the opportunity that we have to travel around this great country of ours.

I want to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving!

  1. Randy,

Great update as always, thank you! I recall how different and difficult it was to get into the holiday spirit when Ginny and I lived in SoCal, but the weather sure was nice! Enjoy the warmth and sunshine!

Ginny and I also feel extremely blessed for our faith, families, friends, good health. We are thankful to live in a country where we are free to follow our faith and be free. Thank you to everyone that has sacrificed so much to allow us this privilege.

    Happy Thanksgiving!
