The small town of Dunedin is one of our favorite local places to visit and have lunch. Many sites, many restaurants, and eight breweries in a 36,000 people population city. It is also known for its beaches, pine forests, and ospreys of Honeymoon Island. We also drove south to Parrish, FL to spend a couple of days with Pat’s brothers and wives.
Dunedin Fine Art Center
Although this art museum was in the middle of a changeover in displays, it was enjoyable to see what they offered. One display was called Rust to Rust and was made from many materials (steel, etc.) to portray the decaying factories in some urban areas of our country.
Dunedin History Museum
These small museums are always interesting to us to learn about what has transpired in prior years. In a nutshell, this area was once very prosperous as a citrus producer. Then after several winter freezes, the orange lost its luster. Farmers went bankrupt.
The railroad was also onboard with this boom and bust period. The rail travel would transport passengers to this winter destination, but the real financial support was from the citrus industry. By 1968 the Dunedin station was no longer in service.
Lunch at Hog Island Fish Camp
We had eaten here last year, and it did not disappoint again this year.
After lunch it was time for a coffee and to walk about the gulf coast for a while on a beautiful sunny day at 72 degrees.
Family Get Together
Pat’s brother John and his wife Cindy have a home about two hours south and invited us down to visit when her other brother Robert and his wife Sherri were visiting from Arizona. We had a great time exploring St. Pete and playing cards at their home. It’s always fun to hang out with family for a few days.
Thanks for hosting us John and Cindy. John is about to retire and join his wife in a new phase in their lives. And Robert has been retired about five years and stays very busy with travel with Sherri and he has launched a new leather craft business along with a YouTube channel. More on that in another edition!
Wrap Up
Next up is a sunset cruise out of NPR! Take care and God Bless.
Great posts! We are in Williston and hoping to visit Cedar Key soon. Been kayaking at Rainbow Springs and riding some bike trails near Dunnellon and Gainesville. Hope to run into you two somewhere. Thanks for all the information!!
Jim – There are quite a few things to see and do around Williston. You will enjoy. I’ll PM you to see if we can meet somewhere. That would be great.
It’s was great to get together and spend sometime trying to stay out of trouble. I look forward to get together again soon.
