We are into our second week at Destin Florida out of the month long stay. This is great to stay parked for awhile. The tradeoff is fewer destinations that we can visit over our RV career. Oh well. They call the people snowbirds who live in the north and travel to Florida for the winter. So, I guess we are officially snowbirds now. For the next four months anyway.
This is a small RV park of about only 30 spots. Geronimo RV Resort. We are getting to know the other snowbirds. Some stay in this park the entire winter. Others for a week before moving on south. Destin will get chilly in January and February, so we will be farther south beginning in December.
Today, we attended another local Presbyterian church. A good sermon on Matthew 7:21. Something to ponder for sure. It is great to be able to visit many different churches, but we miss the friendship that develops after months and years of attendance at one church.
The last few days we had a good seafood dinner at Dewey’s and also walked around this huge outlet mall. There must have been 75 shops that were all brand specific. We did not buy anything though. We are more the thrift shop buyers, unless something is seriously on sale.
I want to take this opportunity to thank all the veterans for their service. There have been many special events the last few days honoring them. They have ensured that we have retained our freedom in this great country of ours.
We attended another Bucket List event last week in a Veteran’s Day tribute. It was the Blue Angels homecoming celebration in Pensacola FL. This was an incredible, almost unbelievable performance.
After several months and 64 performances, the Blue Angel pilots finally have a few months off. But first, they perform one more time before their home crowd. Folks, if you have not seen the Blue Angels fly, you must make sure to get to one of their stops.
The weather was perfect which meant they could do their high routine and not just the low show. We left our campground at 6:30 am for the nearly two hour drive to Pensacola Naval Base. Arriving at 8:30 am, there was already a large crowd, but nothing like the one later in the day. So glad we got there early.
The show started at 9am with 15 different events with acrobatic air flights all leading up to the main event at 1:30 pm when the six FA-18 Hornets rolled out onto the runway. With an open mic, they went through a short preflight check, taxied to the middle of the runway, went to 85% throttle while braked, then released their brakes while adding afterburners. The show was on!
These photos really do not capture the incredible sights and sounds, but hope that you enjoy.
As they pass over at full throttle with afterburners blazing, the sound is just awesome. And I had ear plugs in. The Blue Angels program really stirred a patriotic feeling in us. Proud to be an American and living the freedom that was earned by men and women in the service. Both Pat’s and my father served during World War II in the Navy. Thank you Dads.
Most every day we continue to walk on the beach. Getting our exercise in and it is just a beautiful sight. Please sign up for the email notifications and leave a comment if you wish.
Take care and God Bless.
