Denver, Colorado – Part 2

And here it is, late June! What in the world happened to the month? I often wonder at how swiftly time goes by. It seems to go by faster when we are busy and in an area with much to see and do. The Denver Colorado area certainly qualifies as having much to do, so here we are wrapping up our second and final week in the area. We have packed a multitude of activities into our time here plus have taken a few required down days to rest up a bit. Here is a recap of our week:

Goodbye to Good Friends, Cal and Sue (for now)

In an area such as Denver, we tend to wear ourselves out trying to do as much as possible or at least just trying to keep up with our good friends, Calvin and Suzanne. This is our last week to travel together as we both go in different directions next week. We have truly enjoyed our time with them as we both have similar interests and always have a great time together.

Ready for the brewery tour!

We have now traveled with them for almost five weeks since we met in Taos New Mexico in the middle of a snowstorm. We also enjoyed our travels together last summer and look forward to meeting them again this winter in Florida. Thank you friends!

Littleton Colorado

A very cool little community with a great historic downtown. We went to this Denver suburb twice for lunch and to walk around a bit. On Saturday, we went to the Elks Lodge for their great $3 hamburger lunch. Very nice time with Cal and Sue.

Boulder Colorado Walking Tour

We have now done a few of these. Boston, Lancaster PA, Savannah GA, and now Boulder. Our very knowledgeable tour guide was Kent Young and he has been doing tours for seven years. The 2.5 hour tour began at the historic Hotel Boulderado and ended at the four block walking only street with tons of shopping and restaurants.

Red Rocks

This is a popular park with massive red rock formations and a very popular amphitheater. We took a circle drive through the park and stopped at the museum to view their displays on all the musical acts through the years.

Denver Art Museums

I toured through the Denver Art Museum and the Kirkland Museum across the street. My main preference is the landscape paintings and the Kirkland won my vote. The Denver Art Museum will have a Claude Monet exhibition of 120 painting in October. Too late for us, but I would love to see this. Instead of fine art pieces, they have cluttered their gallery with a whole section of old 1960’s furniture. Maybe art to some folks, I suppose.

Coors Brewery Tour

This tour was one of the have-tos while in the Denver area. Located in Golden Colorado, this brewery is massive and they produce something like 50 different brands/types of beers and many of them at this very large facility.

The tour was self-guided using a personal listening device. It was a higher level tour than we have seen at some of the smaller craft breweries, but still informative and fun. Including a tasting of three eight ounce pours.

Evergreen Colorado & Big Bear Bar

This small mountain town was recommended by Ginny (sister-in-law) and we had heard that Big Bear was a must see when in this town. The bar is best known for its weekend music, but we were there on a Wednesday for their burger lunch.

Thanks for following along. Our next stop is to the southwest of Colorado to the small town of Durango for a family visit. Take care and God Bless.
