A new state for us, Connecticut! We have now relocated twice since our stay in Bar Harbor. The first was in Boothbay, Maine for one night, then to Hampton Falls, New Hampshire for two nights, and finally a longer travel day today in the southwest direction to the small village of Moodus Connecticut. Normally, we like to travel no more than 150 miles and stay a week in a location, but sometimes we just need to cover some more distance.
We had already spent some time in the other two stopovers on the way north, so no big need to spend more time there. Connecticut is a new state for us, therefore we have booked a week at the Grandview Camp Resort.
At the last stopover in New Hampshire, we did our grocery shopping at Walmart and did laundry on the second day after attending church at the Hampton Falls Baptist Church. And we also worked in a dinner at the Smuttynose brewery, (named after a seal), for some of their great BBQ. It was a busy day and a half.
The drive today was about 165 miles and four hours with one stop and many traffic backups around Boston and Worcester. The hairiest point was on the small back road to the campground. The road was very narrow and included a tight S-curve with oncoming traffic. Normally, I would have swung wide around a tight corner, but with oncoming traffic it is usually frowned upon.
So, I went as wide as I thought we could take and at a very slow speed and we cleared the curb with about an inch to spare. Always some challenge I guess.
Our campground has an interesting history. In 1946, a family built a large hotel resort at the site that was a popular family summer vacation place in the Connecticut mountains. Think a cross between the dirty dancing resort and Christmas in Connecticut. Link here.
They have a large clubhouse, many outdoor games, swimming pool, and free coffee in the morning.
There appears to be a lot to do and see in this area, therefore we need to make our list for the week and get out there and explore. Coming up will be trips to the Gilette Castle, the Goodspeed Opera House, and some other day trips.
Thanks for following along! Take care and God Bless.
Randy, your friend looks a little old there.
Yeah, kinda like I feel in the morning before coffee!
