On my last post, we had left our winter RV park near Tampa and had begun the leisurely trip back to the Virginia mountains. We planned to stop for a few days at Cedar Key Florida and Brunswick, Georgia to explore some favorites. A few more fresh seafood opportunities and enjoying the great weather. And on the second day at Cedar Key a major thunderstorm warning came out just before our trip into town for lunch…
The Storm
Oh well, better to be in a large commercial restaurant than our 41 foot fifth wheel trailer if a tornado materializes! We parked right next to the place and quickly ducked in as the rain was beginning. It was right at 12 noon and we were the only ones here. Was that because it was early for the lunch crowd or the six weather alerts?
The restaurant was an awesome place to be during the storm. It is out over the water on a pier like platform on Dock Street. With huge windows all around. Perfect! The place is called 83 West and 29 North. The name is its latitude and longitude.
At the height of the storm it was continuous lightening and thunder. A great show. 60 MPH winds, heavy rain, and hail somewhere locally. The manager, bartender, waitress and chef were all out looking out the windows and chatting with us.
Another bit of interest was all the boat activity down below on the water. The restaurant is located next to the boat ramp and the fishing boats were all racing back to escape the storm and load up on trailers.
It was quite the awesome display of God’s power and thankfully no major damage or injuries and it was over by the time that we left. And a great meal!
Cedar Key First Baptist Church
The next day was Sunday and Pat had investigated this church’s website. Looked to be good and it was. A very well attended and a good bible believing sermon. We met a few members and will return again.
History Museum and Bonish Studio
Next up it was a visit to the local history museum. Much info about the start of the town and the cedar pencil industry followed by the arrival of the train and now the fishing and tourist industry. Very interesting.
Then we stopped in to a very quaint and very conservative bar (Bonish Studio) for a little refreshment. The decorations, signs, and other interesting things always make this a fun stop. Maybe not so much for those with more liberal leanings. 🙂
Then we took a walk around town before returning to base camp and prepare to leave the next day. Next up is Brunswick and St. Simon Island.
Thanks for following along and God Bless.
Looks like a great trip north. Would be fun to visit.
