Cedar Key FL – Final

This is the final post from our time in this great example of Old Florida. Cedar Key FL is located four miles out into the Gulf on the northern west coast. It is the fishing village that time forgot. I’ve posted a few more photos in this update. Hope you enjoy!

Tiki Bar Behind Low Key Hideaway

This small bar was mentioned by some RVing friends that we met in Maine a couple of years ago. It is very rustic and original for sure. The front of the land has an old 1960’s motel that has been nicely fixed up with that 60’s feel.

The back yard has many chairs for relaxing, a dock for viewing the water, and a very tiny bar that appears to be made from wood scraps and wine bottles. This inside will seat about a dozen with large open walls on three side. They do have some flip up windows that will close on the cooler days, such as when we visited.

They are known for some great mixed drinks so we tried the blueberry mojitos. A very good choice. Made with fresh ingredients.

Flyover

While having a drink before dinner at Duncan’s, a group of seven WW-II type of planes did a low flyover of the dockside area. That was very cool to see them flying in formation! In a couple of minutes they were back again, this time with the smoking trails. Awesome. They actually made two of three more passes providing some great airshow entertainment from our seats on the deck overlooking the bay.

One of the other patrons said that while at Steamers last night the group of pilots had come in for dinner after just flying onto the island. As much as I could surmise is that this group of men fly their historic aircraft into destinations from all over. Then perform some precision flying for any people lucky enough to be there.

And we just happened upon them. I would guess they are all former military pilots and now just enjoy the flying time. Wish I knew what planes they were flying. Maybe someone can identify them?

Annie’s Cafe Breakfast

Wanted to try this neat little spot for breakfast, we drove in one day at about 8:30 or so. They have all the usual breakfast favorites plus their special was the fried mullet and grits. It was not exactly what we had in mind, but if it is a local specialty, then what the heck.

The mullet was quite tasty, but as a thin white fish, you have to work some to get the fish off the bones. I’m glad I tried it but would order the eggs and pancakes on our next visit.

Wrap Up

Next up is Apalachicola Florida, then on to points north. Our original plan was to spend a couple of weeks exploring Alabama, but some extreme storm warnings moved us along to Lookout Mountain Ga. It is great to have wheels on the house!

Thanks for following along. Take care and God Bless.
