We found Asheboro NC to be a really cool and friendly small town located right smack dab in the middle of the state. The small town had a population of 25,000 people that we found to be friendly and helpful for visitors. We did spend 2 nights in the area and about half a day walking the downtown area and visiting with some of the shop owners. Continue reading “Asheboro, NC and Travel Day to Salem, VA”
the Christiansburg Hampton Inn
The Hampton Inn was our home during the two week period that we were finalizing the move out process on our sold home and the last week of my work before retiring. April 23, 2017 through May 6th. This is in a great location and a very nice facility. Continue reading “the Christiansburg Hampton Inn”
Our New Home
Today (April 28th), we picked up our new home for the next 3+ years. It is a 2018 Heartland Bighorn 3760EL 5th wheel camping trailer. The day went actually very well after quite a bit of concern over some of the dealer caused issues. Continue reading “Our New Home”
Going to Danville, VA – Picking up the new 5th wheel camper
It has been absolutely crazy! We could not have imagined the chaos and stress of this rapid downsizing and prepping for the newly arriving camper. It is now April 27th and we have mostly all moved out of the house. I’ll write a post soon about this process as it has been somewhat overwhelming at times, but we are excited that the day is finally here – we are picking up the new 5th wheel camper! Punch List Updated – 16 Days To Go List
Several weeks ago, I listed the main items remaining on the interminable to-do list. Well, here is an update to that one. It has taken almost every evening after work and weekends from early morning to evening to get to this stage. New small tasks come up daily that get addressed. Continue reading “Punch List Updated – 16 Days To Go List”
Why the Webpage/Blog?
I have been asked this a couple of times, so will attempt to describe our logic here. Well, here is a list of the main reasons. I also like lists! Continue reading “Why the Webpage/Blog?”
The Final Countdown
It seems as if much has happened over the last week and a half as we are nearing the move out date from our home. The moving van will be here on April 24th to pick up the remaining pieces of furniture that will be going into storage. At that point we will be living at the local Hampton Inn while working on getting rid of any remaining small items and cleaning the house.
Also, we are now scheduled to pick up the 5th wheel near the end of April. The Heartland assembly plant in Indiana is scheduled to finish it on the 21st, then transport to our dealer in Virginia. After a three day thorough testing and checkout period by their techs, we will then spend a full day there on site.
During that day, they will install the 5th wheel hitch in the bed of our truck and spend several hours going through all the systems and features with us. Owners training. I’ll probably use video to record the day’s training or else we would never remember everything.
That wraps up today’s short update. The stress level can get a little overwhelming at times as we keep reviewing the ever growing to-do list all the while the days remaining are shorter. Ack! My last day of regular employee work at Federal-Mogul is May 5th. Cinco de Mayo! I now have 16 workdays to go, after 44 years. 🙂

Sold My Motorcycle
I knew that it would sell. It is a strange feeling to watch some of the items that I always wanted to have and now to have them change over to a new owner. On one hand I would have worried if we had placed the bike into storage for a few years. Many things can go wrong when a gasoline engine is stored. Like the fuel lines leaking, carbs getting gummed up, etc. So, it is liberating to be downsizing and getting rid of just things. On the other hand, I had always planned to take some longer trips when I had more time. So finally I decided to sell it and I can always buy another bike at a later date. No more worries, but… Continue reading “Sold My Motorcycle”
Myrtle Beach SC & Mount Airy NC visit
On our recent RV hunting trip to the dealer in Myrtle Beach, we arrived kind of late in the day to go out and see much of the area. Kind of a bummer, because it is a beautiful area with much to see. We did manage to get up early for a walk on the beach before rushing over to the RV dealer when they opened.
Punch List for the Next 45 Days – March, April 2017
As we are moving ever faster to my retirement date and the transition from living in a large home to our new 5th wheel camping trailer, we have an exhausting list of things to do. I’m going to list it here to have it to refer back to occasionally. This is in addition to hundreds of things that are already completed. Whew! In no particular order: Continue reading “Punch List for the Next 45 Days – March, April 2017”
