Fort Chiswell, Week #2

DVPC

The featured image was taken at our DVPC church at sunset.  We are staying at the Fort Chiswell RV Park, near our former home town of Christiansburg, VA for a month before getting back on the road.  There are dentist appointments, RV work, a complete sort through all of our stuff, a new car to buy, family and friends to see, and a wedding to attend.  We have accomplished much at about the halfway point, but still more to do! Ft. Chiswell Virginia; Hurricane Hideout

ft chiswell

We have been extremely fortunate so far from the Hurricane Florence weather impact.  The rain was a constant warm mist type rain about all day on Saturday here at the Fort Chiswell RV Park.  Then some on and off slightly harder rain overnight, but no flooding at our location.  Today, (Sunday), it has been a little breezy with a very light mist.  We keep waiting for the worst of it! Williamsburg, VA; A Very Colonial Experience

Living in Virginia, we have been to Williamsburg a couple of times before and always enjoy returning.  So, we added this delightful stop to our 2018 itinerary for a one week stay.  In addition to strolling through all of the old Colonial Williamsburg, we also were able to meet up with some new friends that we met in Florida, Sue and Calvin. We had a great time exploring this town with them! Continue reading “Williamsburg, VA; A Very Colonial Experience”

Southwest Virginia; Family, Friends, Many Appointments, and a Brake Failure! Yikes!

We had reserved a great campsite at Claytor Lake State Park that is near to our old home town of Christiansburg, Virginia.  We booked this site for the maximum time of two weeks to allow us time to complete all of our annual health checkups plus some vehicle maintenance.

This leg of our travels was about 400 miles over two days of driving.  This is a bit longer than we really like to drive, but needed to get to our Virginia location for some appointments.

We also had an unexpected brake failure with the 5th wheel coach while traveling in the steep mountains from the Cincinnati area to a one night stopover in Huntington, West Virginia!  Yikes!!! Continue reading “Southwest Virginia; Family, Friends, Many Appointments, and a Brake Failure! Yikes!”

James River State Park & Those Pesky Low Clearances

After our trip to the RV dealer for some warranty work, we drove about 100 miles to the north east to the perfect rural spot to enjoy some peace and quiet, hiking, and some history all thrown in – James River State Park. The access road into the park is longish and is basically a single lane.  It is fine for our big rig until you meet another vehicle coming the other way and they have to drive off onto the convenient grassy area. The park did have some large heavily wooded campsites with huge separation between campers. Continue reading “James River State Park & Those Pesky Low Clearances”
