I’m not absolutely sure that “wintering” is a valid verb, but if not it should be. It is the location that we chose to spend the winter. But, now we are faced with making a change to the plan we made back in the springtime. Yes, it seems that so much today is in some state of turmoil that we are constantly required to make changes. And I’m usually quite acceptable to change if it is for the better. Our wintering plan changes are…
Fall/Winter Route Plan
Our plans are now in place for this coming fall and winter for our RV travel escape the snow plan. The route includes a northwest start to Indiana to see the Moms, then a southwest drive through some old favorite destinations, then finally down to the Rio Grande Valley (RGV) for the winter. Reservations have been booked and preparations have begin for our fall/winter RV travel. But it is only the middle of the summer!
Where to Winter Next Year (2020-21)?
Yes, the word winter can become a verb! It is the location that we choose to spend the winter months, since our home has wheels. One of our full time RV goals is to target good weather with 75 degrees the goal. So, with that in mind, we plan to go somewhere south for the winter and then move into the northern states during the summer months. So, now the question is, where to winter next year (2020-21)?
Fredericksburg – Texas Hill Country and a Visit From Family!
We really enjoyed our short nine day stay in this lovely small German town! Fredericksburg definitely made the “return to” list. Besides having a great and walkable downtown area (that was only 3-4 blocks from the RV park), the area has a multitude of wineries and great restaurants, the LBJ Texas White House and ranch nearby, and the surrounding hills are rich with abundant wildflowers!

San Antonio – Mission to See the Missions
We finally took a day to tour the historic Spanish Missions during our week in San Antonio. One of the first things we did upon arriving in town, was to walk the Riverwalk and have lunch at one of the fine restaurants. We love the riverwalk. I could do that every day. It’s like walking a beach at sunset. You are simply drawn to it. On the other hand, the majestic missions are rich with 1600’s history and are interesting to study. So, just before we left San Antonio, we were on a mission!

San Antonio; King William Historical District
We really enjoyed walking through the King William district the last time that we were in San Antonio. So, returning to the city this was a must do enjoyable walk through a beautiful and historic neighborhood. Just south of downtown, this area is filled with stately old homes built in Greek revival, Victorian and Italianate architecture. It ranks right up there with Beacon Hill in Boston, the French Quarter in New Orleans and Georgetown in Washington D.C. We’ve now seen all four!

We’ve Taken Off To Our 2019 Travels!
Goodbye to the Rio Grande Valley of south Texas! We thoroughly enjoyed our time there over the winter months. Many new friends and tons of activities to keep us busy. So, we are now well rested and ready to begin Year #3 of our Journey. I still marvel at how quickly this time has gone by. We have many new places this year and a few favorites to repeat as well.
Winter Season Winding Down
The winter season at our Llano Grande RV Resort (LINK) is starting to wind down into its summer phase. We are watching several rigs depart every day as they begin the journey back Up North. Most residents are still here in our section of the park, but everyone is busy making preparations to leave. Most will be leaving from mid-March to the first week of April.
South Padre Island, Texas – Day Trip
South Padre Island (SPI) is a beautiful barrier island about an hour due east from our winter home in the Rio Grande Valley (RGV) of Texas. We wanted to make a trip to this popular tourist destination before the spring break madness begins on March 9th. So, we caught some perfect 80 degree weather and took off for a day to explore.
Weslaco Texas – History Museum & Border Wall
A few days ago, on my birthday, we were looking for something to do outside the park. There are so many activities at our park that there is not much need to leave. But, it was my birthday and we wanted to go have lunch. So, I thought of what we could do here locally. There are a few shooting ranges, a movie theater, tons of shopping, and a small museum in the next door town of Weslaco. So off we went…
