We have determined our route south this winter to Florida. No big loop to Louisiana like we planned last year. Just almost a straight south shot with a few stops along the way. Speaking of winter, the first day of fall has just passed by and the leaves have already started to drop. Our leave by date of December 1st is usually the end of the leaf raking. Today’s photos are unrelated to today’s post, but from last month’s festivals in the area.
Myrtle Beach SC & Savannah GA
Being on the road is all coming back again as if we never had an interruption! While having the home base is great, I have missed the excitement of travel and exploring new places. Even with Covid, it is great to be back in the RV and on the road. Our 2nd and 3rd stops were at Myrtle Beach and Savannah. Here is a quick recap…
On The Road Again to Virginia
The day finally arrived for us to pack up, pull in the slides and get back to what we bought the RV for: travel. It has been over eight months since we came to Florida for the winter. And now we are into the heat and humidity of a Florida summer that takes a hardy soul to survive. Our plan is to take a few stops and be back to Virginia in a week.
Charleston, SC – Mayhem Strikes
Yep, just like the Allstate commercial, stuff happens and it happened to us. I will start out with the fact that we are perfectly safe. And that it had been well over 40 years since I’ve had a claim on my insurance policy. That run has ended. Sadly, here’s what happened on the way to our RV park in Charleston, SC when Mayhem Strikes…
Myrtle Beach, SC and Meeting Friends
Next up in our southward journey is the vacation mecca of Myrtle Beach, SC where we had some RV maintenance done, took a couple of down days, and meeting with some friends. This is the time of year to visit the MB area. Not many tourists so the crowds are down and the temperatures are great in the upper 60’s and low 70’s!
Walks on the Beach & Huntington Beach State Park
We are nearing the end of our stay in Myrtle Beach and will be heading back inland tomorrow morning. It’s time for a different geographic phase of our travels. We have been walking along the beach every morning and enjoying the beautiful views. While we are not real beach people, but we do love to walk along the cool surf waters and look for shells or sea life. Continue reading “Walks on the Beach & Huntington Beach State Park”
Travel to Myrtle Beach & a Micro Brewery
On Tuesday, May 30th was our travel day to Myrtle Beach SC. It was about a 3 hour drive on google maps, but with traffic turned into a 4 hour task. The drive went fine but with a few tense moments as we navigated the MB city streets packed with cars. Our MPG was 10.6 while towing. It was good to arrive at our destination for the next 6 days. Charleston SC part 2 and Travel Planning
Our 13 days stay in Charleston, SC is now coming to an end. This is the longest stay in any one spot that we have enjoyed so far. While there are many things to see and do in Charleston, we also had some down days at the RV park including almost 3 whole days of monsoon like rains. Charleston had flood and tornado watches in effect. We kept watching as the RV park lake began creeping up toward our RV. Luckily, the rains subsided just in time, but being mobile, I could have just unplugged, hitched up, and sailed on out. Continue reading “Charleston SC part 2 and Travel Planning”
Fort Sumter, SC & Camp Life
Another Tourist Day
On Friday, May 19th, we booked the ferry boat transport to take the tour of Fort Sumter, the place where the Civil War was started. We booked the tour tickets on line for the 10:30 am departing time. Continue reading “Fort Sumter, SC & Camp Life”
Travel Day to Charleston, SC
Now this travel day was about perfect. We fueled the truck up the night before and worked on laundry and some other tasks to be able to leave by about 9:00 am. Because a moving day is almost like going to work! We had a whole 2-hour drive ahead of us! After a slow start to the day and visiting with neighbors, we left about 11:30 am.
