Southwest Virginia; Family, Friends, Many Appointments, and a Brake Failure! Yikes!

We had reserved a great campsite at Claytor Lake State Park that is near to our old home town of Christiansburg, Virginia.  We booked this site for the maximum time of two weeks to allow us time to complete all of our annual health checkups plus some vehicle maintenance.

This leg of our travels was about 400 miles over two days of driving.  This is a bit longer than we really like to drive, but needed to get to our Virginia location for some appointments.

We also had an unexpected brake failure with the 5th wheel coach while traveling in the steep mountains from the Cincinnati area to a one night stopover in Huntington, West Virginia!  Yikes!!! Continue reading “Southwest Virginia; Family, Friends, Many Appointments, and a Brake Failure! Yikes!”

Asheville NC; Wind Storm RV Driving & Warranty Work

We are seriously northbound now, having arrived in Asheville, North Carolina yesterday.  Our travel timing was based on being in Maine during August to enjoy the cooler summer and to try to stay in the 70 degree weather line as we moved north.  Well, we may be a few weeks ahead of the curve since the local weather forecast in this mountain region is calling for cold and some snow on Saturday!  Wow! Happy Easter

Last Week at Orchid Lake RV Resort (FL) and Travel Days to Savannah, GA

Our month-long stay at the Orchid Lake RV Resort is now over and we have traveled the 320 or so miles north to Savannah, GA.  The month of February just flew by like crazy.  I thought time went slowly while working.  But now, it is like a hyperdrive.  Kind of scary.  The highlights of our month there were meeting many friendly people and making some new friends.  We also enjoyed the warmest February on record for the Tampa, FL area.  Very nice. 2018 Spring and Summer Travel Plans

We have been slowly debating the pros and cons of where to travel to this year.  So many places we want to see and so many things to do.  Our original plan was to see most of the country in three years and then find a location to finally settle down.  It has now become obvious that our country is so large that our plan will probably need to be extended, God willing. Orchid Lake RV Resort Week #3

Camp Reservations, Truck Upgrades, The Blue Parrot, Parade & Day Trip

This last week was filled with us planning our spring and summer travels, researching routes and campgrounds, and then finally calling the parks to make reservations.  We have found this part to be quite tedious and time consuming.  But necessary to be get into the area and into the RV parks that we want.  There have been so many new RVs produced in the last few years that any RV park in desired locations are getting booked up well into the future. Two Weeks at Orchid Lake RV Resort & Tarpon Springs Trip

I can’t believe how quickly time flies by.  Good grief, half of our stay here is already over.  This has been a great place to spend a month at the Orchid Lake RV Resort.  The weather has been perfect with temps in the mid seventies up to low eighties.  Even with the warm weather there is always a light breeze, so under our awning has been a great place to chill.  A few times we have ventured out into the real world and one of those ventures was to a small Greek village of Tarpon Springs. Space Coast of Florida – Wrap Up

The area along central Florida’s east coast from Titusville down to Cocoa Beach is known as the Space Coast, due to the long history they have tied to the US space industry.  We stayed in the area for almost two months before moving over to the west coast of Florida and were able to see many sights, but not as much as we wanted.  So, it will require another visit at some future date.
