In this post I will wrap up my comments and share a few more photos from our recent trip to Philadelphia, Pa. It was truly a content rich destination that I could expand on in a few more blogs, but it will be time to move on to another topic. The end of summer is about here and we do have some more travel planned before we close up the Virginia house and load the RV for travel to Florida.
Philly: Museums, Mint, & Church
This blog post update will focus on the final 2-3 days of our five day trip to this city that played a major role in the shaping of our country. We visited several museums, the US Mint, and attended a well known historic church.
Philadelphia: Arrival, Liberty Bell, Independence Hall
This is the second part of our family reunion and the exploring of our first nation’s capital, Philadelphia, Pa. Pat and I traveled via Amtrak with our middle son, Ross, and arrived at the massive train station at about 2pm. In this update, I’ll cover the first couple of days in the city.

Exploring Philadelphia, Pa
Some of Pat’s family planned a mini-reunion and sight seeing trip to the original capital of the USA. This is a large city with much history, many museums, and some very good restaurant choices. The five day trip would begin with a drive to Roanoke, Va, then taking an Amtrak train all the way to Philly, just a mile and a half from our rented condo. A new adventure Exploring Philadelphia Pa!
Harrisburg & Gettysburg PA
We did have some stress arriving at Harrisburg PA due to the camper brake failure and some really rough roads. And a few more challenges, once we arrived. Continue reading “Harrisburg & Gettysburg PA”
Travel Days to Harrisburg PA and Another Brake Failure!
We have covered some distance in the last few days. South from Connecticut on the extremely rough I-84. Potholes, open seams, and all manner of other bumps and holes. On the way to Harrisburg, PA. On top of that, we were traversing through the Poconos. Long and steep uphill grades followed by the same downhill. Let’s just say it is not my favorite driving. And then the right front trailer hub began to smoke! Yikes! Continue reading “Travel Days to Harrisburg PA and Another Brake Failure!”
Tioga & Wellsboro, PA; a Charming Town & the Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania
Our next stop on the 2018 agenda is to a small town on the northern border of Pennsylvania, next to New York. Our campground is the Ives Run Corps of Engineers park in Tioga, PA, located near the picturesque town of Wellsboro, PA. This is the same park we stayed a week last year. Our drive was a little longer than we like at about 200 miles, but it all worked out fine! Here is the link to our website for last year’s visit (Link).

Lancaster & Lititz PA; Amish Area & Torrential Rain
We recently relocated from a very nice great week long stay in Washington DC to the Amish area of Lancaster, Pennsylvania. It is also known as the Pennsylvania Dutch Country. Lancaster is located in the south central part of the state. This was a mostly easy drive of only 110 miles, but we had some traffic to deal with in DC, Baltimore, and York PA. And parts of I-83 were terribly rough.
But, it was a safe drive and we arrived early in the day at around 2pm. Our RV friends, Calvin and Sue arrived the day before we did and were there to welcome us.

Erie PA; Erie Maritime Museum & Presque Isle State Park
We left the Youngstown NY area after a great week. The awesome Falls and some delightful towns to explore made it difficult to leave, but it was time to sail back south again. Weather wise it is still too early as there will certainly be some hot weather remaining, but we have some appointments that are driving the schedule. Corning New York and the Ives Run Corps of Engineers Park (COE) in Tioga, PA
We moved from the Kutztown, PA area to a new park in the north central part of Pennsylvania. The park/campground is near Tioga, PA and was built by the Corps of Engineers as a flood control reservoir. This 200 campsite park is built on the shores of Hammond Lake with tons of green space and boating/kayaking opportunities. We had a level full hook up site, so life is good! We were only able to stay 5 days because they were full at the weekends due to others having booked it up some 6 months in advance.
