My long overdue blog post has finally been written and posted! In this update, I will try to capture the highlights of the last couple of months. There have been many highs and a few lows over this period as we have enjoyed the many activities and friends at our RV park in New Port Richey (NPR) Florida. I’m sure a few things will be left out as I try to cover this time.
Painting Hobby Update
I have not mentioned very much of this hobby as late since we’ve had some other activities to cover. So, today I will share with you another pastime that I have enjoyed. I try to spend some time each week painting a landscape, an old building, or a still life. It is very relaxing and rewarding. And if it does not turn out well it is very easy to just paint over!
Summer Vacation
First of all, the name of this update could be misleading. This update is undoubtedly not about travel to some destination, but coming back to our home in the Virginia mountains. We had a great winter in Florida and also look forward to a summer at home. I’ve also had a bit of a vacation from writing this blog. Completely unintentional I assure you. Just busy getting the house in order and getting back into hobbies. We are already over two months into our summer. So, let’s do a quick recap and go from there.
Beyond Van Gogh
I had seen advertisements on the Tampa TV stations and on Facebook regarding an immersion experience of Van Gogh’s art work. It sounded like an interesting concept. And was being presented at several cities across the country. The local presentation was in Sarasota, Florida and we only had a few days to go before leaving to go back Up North. So, off we go and were able to work this in after a family visit in the area.
Lakeland Florida – Polk Museum of Art
Just a couple of weeks before we left Florida, we drove over to Lakeland to visit with friends and while there we drove around the town a bit and stopped in the county art museum. We just stumbled upon an exhibition of the Highwaymen. I enjoy painting landscape scenes as a hobby and the Highwaymen paintings are among my favorites!
More Home Updates (Ham Shack & Art Studio)
We are now winding down the summer season in our Virginia home. Packing up to take a month long RV trip before arriving at our Florida destination. Over the summer we have made many updates to our vintage 1956 home. Back in the spring we finished the kitchen remodel. Then it was buying furniture for the screened in back patio. Finally, I have made some progress on two more dedicated rooms.

My Artwork Update
Before we left our Florida safe sanctuary, I got all the painting supplies out for a few new efforts. While I’m never sure of the merits of the artwork, I certainly enjoy taking a few hours to create something. Similar to my other hobbies of woodwork or wood carving. They don’t all work out the best but the process is quite enjoyable. Hope you like them…
Reopening Florida & Another Week
I’ll start out this update with the weather. That is always a good starter. The weather has actually been kind of boring. I start to take it for granted until we talk to family or friends Up North. Our days have been mostly sunny and in the mid 80’s. But the weather in the New River Valley of Virginia has been very mild with the exception of a couple nights down at freezing. Okay, the weather update out of the way…
Artwork Update – Keeping Busy While in Quarantine
The good news is that many areas of the country will begin opening up soon. We don’t know exactly what that will look like, but it is good news for the economy and for the people. I have stopped tracking the numbers in the pandemic and have really limited watching the news. It began to create overload with the inability to travel, staying home at our resort, and all the hype news. We also wonder if we can ever get back to our US travel as it was before. So, to clear my mind, I got my painting supplies back out and set to work!

Painting Update – Places We Have Been
A few months ago in this blog, I included some new hobbies that I had picked up over the winter. Namely wood carving and painting. I have been working on the carvings occasionally, but have started painting some landscape scenes as we have traveled to different locations. Places we have been…
