It is nearly fall as I write this update. The nights are now much cooler, and the daytime temps are not high enough to run the A/C. It is a very comfortable time of year. Pat and I are preparing for a major international trip in a few days and then of course we will leave for Florida after the holidays. So, a very busy fall for us. In this blog update, I wanted to share our rather low-key summer. It was great, but nothing too exciting! So here is a summary:
Winter Route Plan
We have determined our route south this winter to Florida. No big loop to Louisiana like we planned last year. Just almost a straight south shot with a few stops along the way. Speaking of winter, the first day of fall has just passed by and the leaves have already started to drop. Our leave by date of December 1st is usually the end of the leaf raking. Today’s photos are unrelated to today’s post, but from last month’s festivals in the area.
Asheboro, NC – first stop winter 2020
We debated whether to travel at our normal slow pace (150 miles and stay a few days), or just bite the bullet and drive like a demon bat and get to the warmer climate. The slower pace won out since we can still get out for hiking and walking about in the 40-50 degree weather. Even with the virus running loose there must still plenty of things to do. So, our first stop was in the small friendly town of Asheboro, NC.
Vacation Time!
It has been a month since my last blog update. We have been quite busy with the new “sticks and bricks” house. Many changes and updates are now completed or else will be done soon. Such is the life when buying an older home. I find that doing many of these chores is very enjoyable, but after three months with very little time off, we are both ready for a break. Besides that it is getting cold in Virginia and we have already gotten two small snowfalls! Vacation time!
On The Road Again to Virginia
The day finally arrived for us to pack up, pull in the slides and get back to what we bought the RV for: travel. It has been over eight months since we came to Florida for the winter. And now we are into the heat and humidity of a Florida summer that takes a hardy soul to survive. Our plan is to take a few stops and be back to Virginia in a week.
Asheville NC – part 2; the Biltmore Estate and Grounds
This post will wrap up our stay in Asheville, NC. found it to be a very pretty city with beautiful old homes in one section, some fantastic mountain scenery, more breweries than you can imagine, and the largest arts district that we have seen in any town on our US tours so far. Asheville N.C. part 1; Breweries and Artists
We stayed in Asheville for six days and were able to have several days of being the tourists and a little down time as well. The weather was a real mix too. We had a few nice sunny, but cool days and and some cold and rainy days with a few snow flurries thrown in for good measure! Here’s a quick recap of our week: Continue reading “Asheville N.C. part 1; Breweries and Artists”
Asheville NC; Wind Storm RV Driving & Warranty Work
We are seriously northbound now, having arrived in Asheville, North Carolina yesterday. Our travel timing was based on being in Maine during August to enjoy the cooler summer and to try to stay in the 70 degree weather line as we moved north. Well, we may be a few weeks ahead of the curve since the local weather forecast in this mountain region is calling for cold and some snow on Saturday! Wow! Asheboro, NC and Travel Day to Salem, VA
We found Asheboro NC to be a really cool and friendly small town located right smack dab in the middle of the state. The small town had a population of 25,000 people that we found to be friendly and helpful for visitors. We did spend 2 nights in the area and about half a day walking the downtown area and visiting with some of the shop owners. Continue reading “Asheboro, NC and Travel Day to Salem, VA”
Travel Day to Asheboro, NC and RV Repairs
Today actually worked out much better than I expected. We began the day with an early start to be able to make our 9:00 am appointment at RV Outlet near Myrtle Beach for some warranty repairs. I had heard/read many RV repair horror stories over the last few years, so I guess that I had some low expectations and was prepared to battle it out to get a few repairs done while we waited.
