RV and other travels around the World
A short post today to wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas. Some photos below from the last few days around Anna Maria Island, Florida.
We are in Cortez Florida for one more week before relocating to the east coast of Florida. Hopefully, I’ll have the blog caught up by then! I have the last three weeks that include a visit from our kids and many visits with local family and friends!

Yes, the word winter can become a verb! It is the location that we choose to spend the winter months, since our home has wheels. One of our full time RV goals is to target good weather with 75 degrees the goal. So, with that in mind, we plan to go somewhere south for the winter and then move into the northern states during the summer months. So, now the question is, where to winter next year (2020-21)?
Next up on our planned travel schedule is St. Augustine, Florida. The oldest city in the US. Technically, it is the oldest continuously inhabited European-established settlement within the borders of the continental United States. Our week-long stay here was nearly perfect with many sunrises/sunsets, walks about the old historic city, and a meeting with some RV friends.

This is our third trip to this beautiful southern city. Savannah, Ga – we are back again! The first visit was just after I retired in May 2017. The second time was the entire month of March in 2018 when we met family (Mike & Lorna). This visit was just one week on our way south to Florida for the winter. We revisited some of our favorite restaurants, walked many of the 22 squares, and met up with some RV friends. Savannah is one of our favorites!
Yep, just like the Allstate commercial, stuff happens and it happened to us. I will start out with the fact that we are perfectly safe. And that it had been well over 40 years since I’ve had a claim on my insurance policy. That run has ended. Sadly, here’s what happened on the way to our RV park in Charleston, SC when Mayhem Strikes…
Next up in our southward journey is the vacation mecca of Myrtle Beach, SC where we had some RV maintenance done, took a couple of down days, and meeting with some friends. This is the time of year to visit the MB area. Not many tourists so the crowds are down and the temperatures are great in the upper 60’s and low 70’s!
It continues to amaze me at the quality of museums in our nation’s capital. The Smithsonian Museums have some new displays each time that we visit. There are also many other private museums in the city and we were able to work in a new one. In this post, I’ve included a few highlights from our DC museum visits and a few photos. Enjoy.
Taking a Washington DC night tour on a sightseeing bus is something that Pat has wanted to do for some time now. We were never able to work it into our busy schedule until this trip. The RV Resort arranges the whole thing and they pick us up and drop off right at the front office! The tour was from 6pm to 11pm and stopped at all the major monuments. Most were well lit and awesome to see after dark.
It was good to be back home in Virginia! Back to see family, friends and all the annual doctor and dental appointments. Our two weeks at Claytor Lake State Park went by in the blink of an eye. I feel we accomplished much and got to hang out with our kids after a long absence due to our travels. Here is a recap:
Washington DC & Family: This was our third venture, since retirement, to this giant metropolis of people, autos, and many monuments. And the beltway drive with the big rig is still just as bad. Too many vehicles driving too fast. Just a bad recipe when you mix in the slower to stop vehicles like me. But, after a long driving day we arrived safely and had a great week with our son’s family. Our Eastbound journey is now over! From Alpine Wyoming (our westernmost spot this summer) it is 2,100 miles!
