We are now at our destination for the winter months in the small city of New Port Richey (NPV). It has a population of 17,000 people and is about an hour north of Tampa and includes our RV park – Orchid Lake RV Resort (OLRVR). I’ll post something on the park at a later date. This year we stay at one place for almost four months instead of park hopping every month. We’ll see how that works having a base of operations instead of many areas of exploration.
Relaxing in Virginia
We have enjoyed some downtime after our ill-fated attempt to get in some RV travel prior to our wintering in Florida. It has not all been resting up and trying to recover from the nasty Covid virus. Actually, it has been somewhat of a busy four weeks since arriving back at our Virginia home. Relaxing in Virginia….
Another Route Change and Other Updates
It has been over a month since my last blog update which has been somewhat of a challenging blur and then a generous portion of downtime. But alas, that can be life sometimes. But, all is now good and we feel thankful for our blessings. So, our plan was to make a wide loop from our Virginia home to see family and friends and then settle at our Florida RV park on November 1st. And then in the first leg of this tour we both tested positive for Covid…crud!
Summer in SW Virginia
The summer is quickly coming to an end. The daylight hours are starting to decline and the leaves are beginning their evolving into a fall spectacular. Pat and I both really enjoyed being back in a “sticks and bricks” home for the summer. We split our time between working on the place and getting out and seeing some local attractions. I will review our summer outings in today’s blog update. I was going to name this update “What I Did on My Summer Vacation,” but decided that since retirement, I’m always on vacation! Except for all those chores that arrive with owning a home again…yikes!
Family & Friends Visits
Since returning back home we have travelled to Indiana to see family and hosted several family members and friends at our place. This is a quick update for those visits this summer. Another advantage of having a home base again and being retired!
Crystal River Florida – Manatees, Friends, and Family
Located 43 miles southeast from our current winter location is the small town of Crystal River Florida. It is an easy 48 minutes and no interstate highways involved! We met Pat’s brother Tom and sister-in-law Ginny in Crystal River for a manatee adventure and dinner. Plus we got to get reacquainted with friends from Ohio, Greg and Jeannie!

Vacation Time!
It has been a month since my last blog update. We have been quite busy with the new “sticks and bricks” house. Many changes and updates are now completed or else will be done soon. Such is the life when buying an older home. I find that doing many of these chores is very enjoyable, but after three months with very little time off, we are both ready for a break. Besides that it is getting cold in Virginia and we have already gotten two small snowfalls! Vacation time!
Fall 2020 Updates
We have had another busy three weeks. Some great fall weather with temps in the 70’s and mostly sunny. With a few cold snaps thrown in. I suspect the cold will be making more appearances very soon. We both work on projects during the day and then spend some time relaxing at night watching a program or two. So, here is a quick recap of our last three weeks of transition and our fall 2020 updates…
Virginia Update – House Hunting
It has been a very fast two weeks since we arrived to the southwest Virginia area that was our home for over twenty years. We retired just over three years ago and have since been on the road traveling all over the US. Until the pandemic arrived and then we sat it out like most others until we got the green light and good to go note. Well, here is a quick update on our activities upon arriving in Virginia to start the house hunting process!
On The Road Again to Virginia
The day finally arrived for us to pack up, pull in the slides and get back to what we bought the RV for: travel. It has been over eight months since we came to Florida for the winter. And now we are into the heat and humidity of a Florida summer that takes a hardy soul to survive. Our plan is to take a few stops and be back to Virginia in a week.
