We recently made our twice a year time back to the Hoosier mother land. Got to see the moms and some other family before we pack up and head to Florida to avoid the snow shovel syndrome. I’ve mentioned before about the 500 mile drive on this page. It makes for a long day, but great to see family and friends. On to the Indiana quick trip…
Winter Route Plan
We have determined our route south this winter to Florida. No big loop to Louisiana like we planned last year. Just almost a straight south shot with a few stops along the way. Speaking of winter, the first day of fall has just passed by and the leaves have already started to drop. Our leave by date of December 1st is usually the end of the leaf raking. Today’s photos are unrelated to today’s post, but from last month’s festivals in the area.
Philly: Wrap Up on Trip
In this post I will wrap up my comments and share a few more photos from our recent trip to Philadelphia, Pa. It was truly a content rich destination that I could expand on in a few more blogs, but it will be time to move on to another topic. The end of summer is about here and we do have some more travel planned before we close up the Virginia house and load the RV for travel to Florida.
Philly: Museums, Mint, & Church
This blog post update will focus on the final 2-3 days of our five day trip to this city that played a major role in the shaping of our country. We visited several museums, the US Mint, and attended a well known historic church.
Philadelphia: Arrival, Liberty Bell, Independence Hall
This is the second part of our family reunion and the exploring of our first nation’s capital, Philadelphia, Pa. Pat and I traveled via Amtrak with our middle son, Ross, and arrived at the massive train station at about 2pm. In this update, I’ll cover the first couple of days in the city.

Our Hoosier Moms Visit
We try to visit the moms and other family at least twice a year in the Hoosier State. It is exactly 500 miles from our place in Virginia. Not exactly a quick drive. After stops for lunch, coffee, and restrooms, and more coffee, we take about 11 hours to get to Greencastle. This trip was something of a special visit…
Summer Vacation
First of all, the name of this update could be misleading. This update is undoubtedly not about travel to some destination, but coming back to our home in the Virginia mountains. We had a great winter in Florida and also look forward to a summer at home. I’ve also had a bit of a vacation from writing this blog. Completely unintentional I assure you. Just busy getting the house in order and getting back into hobbies. We are already over two months into our summer. So, let’s do a quick recap and go from there.
Wrapping Up March
March was our final month at our winter destination in Florida. It has been a great winter with many activities, family and friend meet ups, and as always the nice Florida weather. We are looking forward to some sightseeing on the way back and of course being back in our Blue Ridge Mountains. So let’s wrap up March with a high level summary.
February Was a Blur
Not sure where the month of February went to, but it is in the rear view mirror now. We seemed to be busy for most of the days, but had just a few noteworthy events. So it is to be retired and enjoying life in Florida, the capital of the 55 and over set. I try to capture items in this blog that have some interest for others and to document our travels. So where did February go?
Christmas on Anna Maria Island, FL
I hope that everyone had a great Christmas season with family and preparing for another new year. My wife Pat and I just finished celebrating our 49th wedding anniversary and Christmas with some family south of Tampa. This new year also brings in our 50th anniversary. Very hard for me to comprehend that. I remember my grandparents golden anniversary and they were old! Anyway, we have started to plan a huge year…
