Yes, we took a quick getaway to drive over to Branson for 2 days and 1 night and had an absolutely great time! It was only a 2-hour drive from our campsite near Mountain View. Just as a reminder, we stayed a couple of weeks in Mountain View waiting for the warranty replacement of our convection microwave.
Even when we are traveling the country and seeing many awesome sights, it is nice to get away from the RV life and take a vacation. We thought about just moving the camper over to Branson for a few days, but were waiting for the microwave shipment.
We left our camper at about 9:30 am and arrived at our hotel at about 11:30 am and was able to early check in. I found a “historic” hotel on line at a great rate and a good location to the historic downtown shops. The hotel was built in 1905 and was originally the railroad station masters home and was later converted to a boarding house. It was a little worn, but the room was clean and the hotel was very quaint. And it has a nice pool on a very warm day.
The hotel’s location was great to walk to the historic downtown shops as well as the Branson Landing area that also had many shops, restaurants and bars. The Landing area is very new and has a high tech water fountain that constantly has a programmed show and on the hour awakes to a major water show with flames. All set to music. We had dinner at a great Mexican place over looking the water and fire show. That was a real treat.
If you do not know, Branson is a major tourist town. The big draw is the multitude of shows. The town has 60 theaters and each will usually have several different shows each week. They also have all the other tourist trap places like go kart tracks, mini golf, and the like. We signed up for two shows and just did a lot of walking around and sightseeing.
While in Branson, we met some new friends Steve and Connie Brown for lunch before one of the shows. We first met them at our camp in Missouri and found them to be very interesting as they also both retired, sold their home, bought a truck and 5th wheel camper and hit the road in December. They are slowly on their way to Texas for the winter.
The two shows that we selected were a classic rock performance at the Dreams Theater that was pretty good. It included look alikes and sound alikes for Steve Nicks, Rod Stewart, Mick Jagger and Tina Turner. We were in the front row with only about 20 people in the crowd.
The next day, we booked the Moses performance at the Sight & Sound theater. This was phenomenal! It was a musical performance of the life of Moses from the Old Testament. Their motto is they are about bringing the bible to life and I can tell you they certainly do that very well. You feel like you are alongside Moses throughout his life from his exile as a newborn. I highly recommend it. Thanks to Connie Thomas, my former co-worker for the tip on this show.
The Sight and Sound theater first started in Lancaster PA and duplicated their show at Branson. Their theater will hold 2,000 people and it was mostly full for the 3:30 matinee.
We drove the truck on this trip and she averaged 18 miles per gallon. This is very good for a 1-ton diesel truck with the 4.10 gears. I was happy with it.
Next up is a move south as the fall weather is approaching! Please make sure to sign up for the email alerts for each blog update and leave a comment if you wish. See you down the road and God Bless. Enjoy the photos:
Looks like a great stop. I have always planned a stop to Branson but it has just not worked out. Maybe in the near future.
Yep, in a few weeks you will have all the freedom that I have been experiencing since May. I will look forward to your updates! 🙂
Thanks Randy. I do enjoy your blogs and hope you don’t get tired of writing them. Have not been to Branson but heard they have a zip line and that sounds like fun. Maybe next time. If I ever go there, will be sure to go to the sight and sound theatre. So glad you two are having fun. Luv you. Lorna
Thanks Lorna! The blogs are still fun so far and better now that I am almost caught up. We saw one of the zip lines (think they have several) over the river. It looked very cool. The Sight & Sound would be a destination for sure. Wish that I had heard of it earlier. Luv ya!
