I had seen advertisements on the Tampa TV stations and on Facebook regarding an immersion experience of Van Gogh’s art work. It sounded like an interesting concept. And was being presented at several cities across the country. The local presentation was in Sarasota, Florida and we only had a few days to go before leaving to go back Up North. So, off we go and were able to work this in after a family visit in the area.
Summary
Here is a quick summary of what it is. Most all of Van Gogh’s work was photographed, digitized, and a good helping of computer graphics are added. The projectors will show the painting on the wall, ceiling, and floor. And the guests walk right into the painting. And then the animation kicks in. You are in a living, breathing, work of art. Heck, even the portraits will blink their eyes and move. It can be a little spooky.
They have over 300 pieces of his artwork, digitized into four trillion pixels of high definition. It is held in a new temporary building of 50,000 square feet. From the website:
Who created Beyond Van Gogh?
Created by French-Canadian creative director Mathieu St-Arnaud and his team at Montreal’s Normal Studio, Beyond Van Gogh is an immersive experience showcasing over 300 of the artist’s works.
The tickets were a little expensive at $40 each. But how often do you get to step into a living Van Gogh painting? I highly recommend when it comes to a location near you.

Some photos from our visit.
Thanks for following along! The next blog update will be on our way north as we stop to explore a couple of favorites. Take care and God Bless.
Looks like fun. It’s interesting I read an article that the world of museums are not happy about this. Seems they think it’s taking funds from them.
I had wondered how the “official” art museums felt about this new media. Interesting.
