We are now more than halfway through our stay at our winter home at Orchid Lake RV Resort in New Port Richey Florida. We like this location because it is close to so many places here on the gulf side of the sunshine state. After the cruise, we made a list of twenty or so things to do in the area before we leave. And have just begun to explore.
This RV park is coming back to life after being mostly dormant for two years due to Covid. Many activities are now underway and it can keep you busy.
I had applied for a partial refund from the Crystal Cruise due to one of the three weeks was cancelled. After nine days, I received a note today that the credit was being processed now. Great news! I was not sure if I would have to use the credit card dispute feature. That would just complicate matters I thought.
Another activity this week was an email to Lippert (RV component manufacturer) about our theater seating in the fifth wheel. The fake leather covering started to crack and peel in the third year and now in the fourth year is absolutely falling apart. Lippert is great to work with. They acknowledged the issue and stated while outside of the warranty, they would be happy to provide a 50% off of a new replacement set. I’ll take it! Now just to coordinate the order and RV service to install.
We have found a good local church that we have attended a couple of times. The Riverside Baptist. Maybe 80 people attending so on the smaller side. Not a small as the church in Trenton Maine that we attended a few years ago. Including the pastor there were six. We met another couple from our RV park that also attends at Riverside. How about that!
Last Saturday we ventured out of the park to a dinner theater in Hudson Fl. Saw a Johnny Cash musical. It was quite good and the place was completely packed. Business is booming.
Then back in the park, we have had a food truck lunch (pizza) on Weds, attended a musical jam session on Tuesday, and attended the weekly art class on Thursday. Not really a class, but just everyone working on their own projects. Me and eight ladies. Great fun. I painted a landscape from our recent Caribbean cruise.
We did find a nice waterfront restaurant in town. It is located on the river near the Gulf. Grouper platters for both of us today for lunch.
And finally, I found a local hobby shop who has a off-road dirt track that you can rent for radio controlled cars. I purchased a 1/10th scale electric RWD dune buggy last year and have only a little practice in the driveway. On this track, I gave it a good workout. Only flipped a couple of times, but airborne quite a bit. Most people break something on the vehicle. So far, so good on that score. I’ll have to get back there.
Wrap Up
That is about it for the week. I’m back to walking about three miles per day. Pat is having some knee issues so joins me on half the walks. The weather has been great. At 84 degrees yesterday, it may have been a local heat record. But I see some cooling off in the days ahead. I’ve also read a couple of Robert B. Parker books this week. Very easy reads, but comical and interesting.
Thanks for following along another boring week in the life of these two retirees. Life is good. Take care and God Bless.
Sounds like you are into the RV park groove. Enjoy the warm weather.
Hey Cuz- Looks like you’re maximizing your opportunities and life is rich. Dinner theaters, art classes, cruises and walks. Glad for you.
