Anniversary in Cocoa & Cocoa Beach FL

After having spent two solid weeks absorbed into a whirlwind of activities to sell mom’s home, belongings, and many other tasks, we took a day off to enjoy the beautiful weather and celebrate our wedding anniversary.  We decided to just do some local sightseeing, go through several art galleries, visit a brewery, walk on the beach, and then have dinner at one of the nicer, upscale restaurants in Cocoa Beach.

We both enjoyed a more laid back and relaxed day.  Intending to go to the local history museum as well, but with a mix up on its location it got scratched off the list.  At 80 degrees for the high, we certainly cannot complain.

This year is our 45th anniversary.  Trish and I met as sophomores in high school.  Where do the years go?  I guess it was working at a career, raising three kids, and all the other things that keep us busy.

I consider myself extremely blessed to be able to have these years with my wife, best friend and travel buddy.  Hopefully, we will have many more years to explore the country before settling down somewhere.  What the best wife she is!

We started the day with a swim in our campground’s heated pool. Even in Florida, a pool needs some extra heat in the winter months.
Then it was off to the Dirty Oar brewery in Cocoa. This is a very nice brewery at the 6-month point since start up.
I had the darker McCarthy (Irish Ale), while Pat had the Holler Back (Blonde Ale).  I was impressed with the quality and variety of brews for this start up.  We will go back.

Me!
Many little shops in the quaint Cocoa Village.
We saw these custom bikes while walking along the riverfront shops.
Then we drove over to Cocoa Beach to walk the beach and the shopping areas.

We walked out on the pier. They have fixed up all the hurricane damage and have also added a new restaurant since we were here last.
Several people surfing while we were there even with the smallish waves.
A picturesque street at nearly sunset.

For dinner, we went to Florida’s Fresh Grill in Cocoa Beach based on Carol’s recommendation.  Carol is my cousin Sam’s wife and they live here on a permanent basis.  This place had some incredible food and service.  We shared an appetizer and I had the grilled shrimp and scallops while Pat had the ribeye.

I’m not sure what our 50th wedding anniversary will bring.  I remember going to my grandparents 50th party back in 1962 and it seemed like they were incredibly old to me.  My perspective has now changed looking at it from the other end.  Maybe we will have parked the RV by then and have a condo somewhere.  I don’t know.

I did get to wash and wax the truck the other day.  The beast of a truck does look great all cleaned up.  I still get comments about the red truck almost every time that we drive it somewhere.  This is very different for me since we have always purchased autos that were several years old and had lost their shine.  In the wealth accumulation phase, spending less is they key.

Here is Pat by the ruby red Ford F-350. Note the truck’s size in comparison.  Since this truck is a 4 wheel drive Super Duty, it is taller than most all the other trucks on the road.

Imagine my surprise to see a larger truck in the neighborhood.  What the heck?  Hmmm.

It did surprise me as to the large number of people who are off-road enthusiasts in Florida.  I have always thought that the mountain fire roads would be where people take these vehicles.  There are no mountains in Florida but miles of sandy, swamp, mud filled back roads and fields.

The electrician lady who quoted us a job even showed me a picture of her off-road jeep they use on weekends.  Well, my red Ford truck will probably not be venturing off into the swampy backcountry and the Hummer pictured will probably not be pulling an eight ton camper either.

Have a great day and God Bless.
