One of the super popular activities here are the multitude of beautiful hikes within the Acadia National Park.  We have been here almost a week and no hikes yet.  I guess we have been busy doing the normally living stuff: laundry, grocery shopping, and hanging out.  It’s time to kick it up a notch.

So I researched about six hikes and selected the Ship Harbor hike as our first.

Since the Acadia parks gets crowded by 9 or 10 am, we left base camp at 8 and arrived at the Acadia NP Ship Harbor Trailhead by 8:30 and thankfully there was plenty of parking for the big red truck. Continue reading “Acadia NP Ship Harbor Trail & Bass Harbor Lighthouse”

With our week long stay in Boothbay being over, it was time to migrate northbound again.  So we packed up, lifted up the jacks, pulled in the slides, and relocated the rig about an hour north to the Penobscot Bay Area of Maine.  It was an easy commute along scenic US Hwy 1! This is the final update from our week at Boothbay Harbor ME.  The campground, (Shore Hills), turned out to be a very nice park and the shuttle into town was an added bonus.  We did not explore much of the surrounding area, but focused on this harbor town and area close around it.  We will definitely return one of these years. We had heard about this ship, the Viking ship Draken, that was about to arrive in Boothbay Harbor, but not really sure what to expect.  Many people were talking about it.  So, we did what everyone does in this age, we Googled it!  It appeared that it is the largest Viking ship ever built in modern times and it was sailing into Boothbay Harbor! Yesterday (Saturday) we took a short drive to Ocean Point, sort of a suburb of Boothbay.  The drive on highway 96 was the perfect scenic tour of the real Maine.  Not many tourists, not commercial, just a narrow road that winds through the houses right at the rocky edge of the coast! Our next step in the RV Journey is to Boothbay Harbor, Maine.  The travel from Hampton Hills N.H. to our campground was a nice short 120 miles and it took about 3.5 hours including a stop for lunch.  When doing some advance research, we felt his coastal town would be one of the highlights of our summer travel!
